Staying
Every grey cloud falls apart, waiting for a rainbow.
With this painting, I was experimenting with wider brushes and bolder colour. It was the first of some larger works - well…an inch or so larger! Unlike previous paintings, I decided to keep the raw brushstrokes, adding only a few finer lines to define the hills. I’m often captured by the way the sky and landscape blend together on days when the sky descends onto the plateau where I live, obscuring the trees on the summit and swallowing the mountain.
There is good deal of grey in this artwork, and yet it’s bright and colourful. As we wait for things to improve, lamenting our lives’ bleak days, we can often be surprised by joys and small amazing miracles.
*NB this artwork is not yet Sold, but it is on reserve throughout the duration of the current exhibition at The Gallery Whitehead, Northern Ireland.
