Thaw is how we heal, safely, slowly
I painted Thaw at the end of a creative winter. Colour began to reappear on my palette as thoughts turned towards Spring and a new artistic season. But most importantly, I allowed spontaneity to emerge, looseness of line, fast and easy strokes, movement. The canvas became alive with energy and vibrancy, as I added layer after layer, scraped back, added inks and marks, oil pastels, charcoal and pen. For the very first time, white, not black, became the dominant shade.
Thaw represents a new start, clean and pure, and yet what is revealed in a thaw is not what is new, but what was always there.
